Amazon Signage Stick
Testing phase [test start: 01.24.2025 end 02.11.2026] : Testing phase completed. We continue to appreciate your assistance in reporting issues as well as feedback on the setup instructions linked below. [Email dsign@iu.edu]
Issues known so far:
More than one hundred Amazon Signage Sticks have been deployed in 2025. There are some minor annoyances but so far, the results have been good especially considering the cost.
There’s no question that the Amazon Signage Stick represents incredible value, however we do not consider them as reliable as a Windows PC, particularly for mission critical applications.
Some issues reported so far:
- Random reboots, but device recovers and resumes displaying content. Viewers may see some system related messages, and/or Poppulo logo during reboot.
- Poppulo logo (or a blank screen) occasionally appears while device checks for updates, but device resumes displaying content.
- A unified Amazon account is needed, which is managed by digital signage support within UITS Enterprise Experience team.
- Setting up the device requires special instructions.
- Custom template required for emergency messaging.
- Natively supports landscape mode only. [A workaround exists which requires custom setup. Contact dsign@iu.edu]
- Device is powered via USB connection. Note: USB port power on monitors/displays are generally unreliable. In order to recieve firmware updates in the late evening hours, Amazon recommends the device be powered from a dedicated external power source.
- WiFi connections are not as reliable as wired [Ethernet.] Consider using an Ethernet adapter.
