Getting started with digital signage

Follow these steps to request and purchase digital signage:
- Get your sign approved by the Capital Projects. To start the process, fill out a Facilities Request For Services.
- Capital Projects’ design team involvement is required as they will be looking for work elements essential to address building code and/or ADA issues. With Capital Projects' design and approval, you may move forward and purchase hardware. Typical hardware includes a flat screen computer display and a small form factor PC, but smart TVs and tablet PCs are also possible*.
- Request a software license while these processes are moving forward, or if you already have existing signs*.
*Due to the ever evolving options in hardware we are not able to recommend specific brands or models for your sign.
What you need to know
All digital signage devices at Indiana University must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The sign provided will be a shared responsibility of:
- Capital Projects: Capital Projects (CP) is not typically responsible for the electronics hardware specification, or purchasing; those elements would be procured by the department directly.
Capital Projects is responsible for the following:
- Design of installation
- Facility Operations installation
(Construction, electrical power, wall structure/support, in-wall components, mounting, IU network systems wiring and connectivity.)
Designs by Capital Projects ensure a proper installation which is accessible according to ADA Title 3 compliance. (Please note: It is the responsibility of digital sign managers and content creators to deploy content which is accessible to visually impaired persons.)
- Poppulo: As the software provider for campus digital signage, Poppulo is responsible for customizing software and interface elements relative to the user’s needs.
- Your group and/or requesting department: You must work with Capital projects to ensure your interactive digital sign is within accessible reach limits. It is also the responsibility of digital sign managers and content creators to deploy content which is accessible to visually impaired persons.
